This guide will help you create, customise, and assign appraisals quickly and with confidence.
Access the appraisal editor
Here’s how to access the Appraisal Editor so you can start to build and manage appraisals.
⚠️Important: You'll need certain permissions to access the appraisals editor. Raise a new support case to request access.
Sign in to the platform.
Click Appraisals.
From the left menu, click Manage appraisals.
Create a new appraisal
Kick off the appraisal process by creating a new form. You can start from scratch and build it step by step.
Click Manage appraisals.
Click Create Appraisal in the top right corner.
Enter a Title and Introduction for your appraisal.
Choose your preferred Sign-off process from the drop-down.
Populate the Start and Close dates of the appraisal.
Next, choose from;
Create with AI: Let AI do the heavy lifting. Instead of building surveys from scratch, AI instantly generates smart, structured questions based on your input.
Create manually: You choose every question and customise it exactly how you want. This way, you get the specific answers you need and can change the survey anytime. Continue with the steps below.
Sign off process | What it means |
Employee – Manager – Meeting | The employee completes the appraisal, the manager reviews it, and a final meeting is held to sign it off. |
Employee – Manager (No return) | The employee completes the appraisal, and the manager reviews and signs it off. There’s no back-and-forth or meeting. |
Employee – Manager – Meeting (No return) | After the employee and manager complete their sections, a meeting is held. No changes can be made once the meeting ends. |
Employee – Manager – Return or Meeting | The manager can either return the appraisal to the employee for changes or schedule a meeting to finalise. |
Employee – Manager – Senior Manager (No return) | After the manager signs it off, a senior manager reviews and completes the process. No returns or edits. |
Employee – Manager – Employee – Manager | A more interactive process where the appraisal goes back and forth between employee and manager before finalising. |
Manager – Employee – Agreed meeting – Manager – Employee | The manager starts the process, then the employee adds input, followed by an agreed meeting and final sign-off. |
Employee only | The employee completes the appraisal independently – no manager or sign-off is involved. |
Employee – Manager – Senior Manager | After the employee and manager complete their parts, the senior manager gives final approval. |
Employee – Manager – Senior Manager – Manager | The appraisal passes through employee, manager, senior manager, then returns to the manager for final confirmation. |
Employee – Manager – Employee | The appraisal begins with the employee, then moves to the manager, and returns to the employee for final input. |
Manager – Employee – Manager | The manager initiates the appraisal, the employee responds, and the manager completes it with a final review. |
Create an appraisal with AI
To streamline the appraisal process and eliminate the need to start from scratch each time, you can use AI to generate appraisals. To do this, follow the steps below.
Click Manage Appraisals, then click Create Appraisal.
Enter the relevant details, then click Create with AI.
Complete the questions and fields that appear.
Click Generate Preview, then click Save changes.
Click Proceed, then click Assignments.
Manually create an appraisal

Add sections
Organise your appraisal with distinct sections. This part covers how to structure your form and keep content grouped logically.
Following on from the create new appraisal steps above, click Add Section from the menu on the left.
Enter the Section title.
Enter the section Introduction.
Click Save changes.
Repeat the above steps for as many sections as you need.
Add questions
Build meaningful assessments and add the right types of questions. Learn how to insert, format, and customise questions within each section.
To add a question to a section, locate the section, then click New question.
From the drop-down select the Style.
Enter a Title and Description.
Click Save Changes.
Repeat the process to add more questions to a section.
Reorder questions within your section
Need to rearrange your content for better flow? This section explains how to reorder individual questions within any section of your appraisal.
Click the 3 dots next to the section.
Click Reorder Questions.
Drag and drop your questions to arrange them.
Click Confirm Order.

Keep your appraisal structure clear and logical. Follow these steps to change the order of entire sections in your form.
Click the 3 dots next to the section.
Click Reorder Questions.
Drag and drop your sections to arrange them.
Click Confirm Order.
Assign the appraisal
Ready to launch? Learn how to assign your completed appraisal to employees and their managers, so the review process can begin.
Click Manage appraisals.
Click the appraisal.
Click the 3 dots next to the appraisal, and click Assignments.
Click Assign.
From the drop-down, select an employee, position, site, or user group.
Use the search box to locate your users.
Next, search for the manager you want to assign and select them when thier name appears.
🤓Tip: You can assign more than one manager.
Click Allocate.
