The Care Certificate is designed for new workers joining health or adult social care who haven't had training or experience in the sector. Employers can also choose to offer it to other staff members. It includes 15 basic standards for new care workers and should be part of a thorough induction program. These are;

  1. Understand your role

  2. Your personal development

  3. Duty of care

  4. Equality and diversity

  5. Work in a person-centered way

  6. Communication

  7. Privacy and dignity

  8. Fluids and nutrition

  9. Awareness of mental health, dementia, and learning disabilities

  10. Safeguarding adults

  11. Safeguarding children

  12. Basic life support

  13. Health and Safety

  14. Handling information

  15. Infection prevention and control

Standard 16 - Awareness of Learning Disabilities and Autism

We're in the process of making updates to our content to meet the 2025 Care Certificate changes and will roll out updates as soon as they're ready.

Our Care Certificate course currently doesn't cover Standard 16. Your organisation needs to decide how to cover this requirement.

What we offer

We offer eLearning courses on Autism Awareness and Learning Disabilities. You can also request access to the Oliver McGowan Tier 1 eLearning course, which we host on our platform. Check out this help guide to find out more about the Oliver McGowan course.

Theory

The theory part of the Care Certificate involves an eLearning course completed on our platform. This part covers the essential topic modules.

Practical

The practical part is the Care Certificate Workbook, which consists of the 15 standards mentioned above. These standards are the practical application of the topics covered in the eLearning course. Each standard in the workbook needs to be signed off by a manager to confirm competent completion. Only when the theory and practical components have both been completed will the individual attain the full qualification of the Care Certificate.

If you have a report column set up for the Care Certificate workbook, you'll just need to add a training record to a user's account to show compliance on your report.
